In her work, Agnieszka Mastalerz explores the mechanisms of control and the processes that influence and exploit individuals. The artist uses a poetic visual language to analyze restrictive rules established within intimate relationships, communities, states, and companies, as well as in relation to the natural environment. Mastalerz's works are included in the collections of the Fondazione in Between Art Film by Beatrice Bulgari, the European Investment Bank, the Ergo Hestia Group, and the Warsaw Ghetto Museum, as well as in private collections.

Supports

Walking through the University of Warsaw Botanical Garden, I noticed sculptural, rickety steel structures used to support plants. Although their function is to define how the plants will develop and in what direction they should grow, the supports restrict movement.
Since 2018, I have been observing and analyzing these architectural forms and photographing them, most often analogue and in black and white, to be able to focus more precisely on the composition of lines.
For me, taking photographs, which require careful attention and time, is part of the process that leads to the creation of subsequent works inspired by plant supports. To open them up to other interpretations, I consider how to remove these structures from their natural context, remodel and scale them, and even change the materials from which they are typically made.

The series, in collaboration with banda editions, was realized using slides during a residency at the Susch Museum in 2021.
